Dr Tim Legrand

Head of Research

Dr Tim Legrand is a social policy research specialist, with expertise in the transfer of policies and best-practice from/to overseas. He combines a strong background in qualitative and quantitative research methodology with experience in social welfare and drug and alcohol policy.

As a Research Consultant with Tonic Consultants, Tim has led the research elements of program development for local and central government. With strong experience in research methodology he has delivered robust analysis and recommendations for:
• 2009 Dual Diagnosis: Integrated Care Pathways Essex DAAT & CAMHS
• 2009 Targeted Mental Health in Schools: DCSF
• 2007 Evidence Based Commissioning - Literature Review: Kent DAAT
• 2007 Young people and substance misuse mapping - Literature Review: Medway DAAT
• 2004 SAFER: Online Harm Reduction (Development Project): KCA Young Person's Drug & Alcohol Service & Kent DAAT

As a policy advisor to industry and the public sector in Australia, he:
• Planned and ran a national political communications campaign for Informed Sources Ltd.
• Provided policy advice and support to the Department for Education, Training and the Arts, Queensland.

As an academic at the University of Birmingham, Tim has conducted social policy research in Canada, the US, Australia, France and Sweden for, inter alia, the Ministry of Justice, The Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF), the US Senate, and the Australian Department of Employment, Education and Workplace Relations.
